As the premiere community foundation serving Northern Virginia, NVCF works to grow philanthropy and strengthen our community by encouraging community endowments, addressing community needs, and providing community leadership.
We are a tax-exempt organization that holds a collection of separate charitable funds established by individual and corporate donors. For as little as $10,000, a donor may open a named fund with us and make lasting gifts to charities in our community. Funds are pooled for investment purposes and grants are made from the funds, often with the advice of donors to support the charities they choose.
Our Board of Directors is a diverse group of local leaders – corporate, civic, social, and political - who believe in the value of community and the need for permanent, responsible, and effective stewardship for philanthropy funds. Many donors who are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the region help us meet the most pressing needs in Northern Virginia.
This past year, more than $3,000,000 in grants and scholarships supporting child and youth development, education, health, arts, homelessness, community improvement, and other causes were made from our funds. Hundreds of nonprofit organizations benefited from these grants and put our resources to work to strengthen the community.
Growing philanthropy and strengthening community is our work, our mission, and our passion. NVCF makes a difference every day in the lives of people in our region. We will continue our philanthropic leadership role, helping to address needs, serve donors, and problem-solve for nonprofits, all essential elements for a healthy and vital community. |
