About Us ->History October 10, 2008 Council on Foundations Recognizes NVCF 2008 Community Leadership Award Gala Loudoun Office History Mission and Vision Board of Directors Board of Advisors Staff Statistics Funds Grants Our History We are a public charity established in 1978 by the late Maynard DeWitt and others to meet a wide variety of social, educational, cultural and other charitable needs throughout Northern Virginia.  We do so through the distribution of income (and in some cases principal) from endowment funds established by our donors.  The Northern Virginia Community Foundation is fully tax-exempt under Sections 501(c)(3) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the Internal Revenue Code.
